Product Description The Onkyo TX-SR606 7.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver provides high-definition video and audio processing for four source components. Onkyo's RIHD (Remote Interactive over HDMI) gives you inter-operability with the displays and playback components from other leading brands. With an expanded version of Audyssey's room correction technology, the TX-SR606 maintains the fullness of surround sound audio quality at low volume levels. With the latest HDMI version and advanced A/V processing capabilities, the TX-SR606 is a powerful control center for all high-definition media, including Blu-ray Disc and HD broadcasts. The TX-SR606 has Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio to enable a lossless, bit-for-bit soundtrack that is identical to that of the studio master. Both codecs are designed for the Blu-ray Disc format. Dolby Digital Plus has been designed for high-definition video delivered via disc media, broadcasts and online content. DTS-HD High Resolution Audio, meanwhile, offers a greater bit rate, a higher sampling rate, and more channels than the core DTS technology. The TX-SR606's HDMI inputs can receive pristine digital video from HDMI-enabled components for a single-cable output to a display device with an HDMI or DVI connection. AWESOME receiver June 27, 2009 S. mcadam (windsor, Canada) After doing quite a bit of research on CNET.com, I came to a decision, and it was with the ONKYO tsr-606. The reason I decided on this specific receiver is because of the 7.1 capability, the multizone functioning, and the 4 HDMI in, and 1 HDMI out. The multizone is great, I have 5.1 in my living room, and 2 speakers in my bar. I love the receiver, its not as difficult as everyone says to set up. I had no problem at all. Actually one little problem setting up the multizone, I just had to turn on one setting, the manual showed me how. The receiver is truely amazing for the price, and you wont be dissapointed. ONE MAJOR THING...I selected a used receiver to save like $30 and it came practically new. Not one scatch, plastic wrap on almost everything, I could not believe it. AMAZON Rules
So this is what I've been missing, wow! June 24, 2009 J. Silberman (Bergen County, New Jersey) Great A/V system. Connects more devices via HDMI, Composite, ect. than I have to connect to it. I was a bit overwhelmed have used Rube Goldberg style of split connections in the past. Aside from some odd inability to turn the system on/off while in CD mode (when using for sound from the macbook pro, and watching via HDMI/DVI) it is very good system. The auto upscale is very nice. Having an upscaling DVD player that handles 1080P makes up for what the specs indicate 1080i max helps cut the cost of going with the much more expensive model above this one. Besides, it is hard to see that much difference between either since it is only upscaling, not delivering content that would otherwise have started out as full 1080P. Not sure if this will be an issue should I decide to get a BluRay. Not even sure I will ever get one with so much HD content available directly over the air or in greater supply on line from iTunes and the like. Just not that nuts about the whole TV watching thing.
Great Surround Sound June 21, 2009 E. Villagran I been a fan of Onkyo for a few years now, their sound quality is great and so is their equipment without spending alot of money like you would with other brands. I bought this system to replace my old Onkyo receiver that lacked HDMI ports, installation was a breeze and it removed alot of the wire clutter from my old receiver. I use HDMI on everything except my Xbox 360, but the upgrade is worth the money. A few reviews talk about the unit being extremely hot, however i don't think it gets any hotter than other receivers. Keeping it in a well ventilated place helps to dissipate the heat alot. If your looking for a cheap way to upgrade to an HDMI receiver that supports HD sountracks from Blu-ray this is a must buy!!!
Awesome Receiver June 13, 2009 Austin Awesome receiver so far, it does everything i need it too. I have a 65inch Mitsubishi DLP HDTV (awesome TV ! ! 65inch HDTV for $1100 @ Fry's electronics - awesome ! , DVD Player, AT&T Uverse receiver, Apple Computer, & Polk speakers all running through & off of the receiver. I am not an audiophile, but did a lot research & price checking - buy this receiver on Amazon ! I looked at alot of receivers online, @ major retailers, & you cant beat Amazon prices. Onkyo was the favorite brand of most store experts @ Fry's, Circuit City etc because of its performance & performance for the price. Enjoy.
Excellent choice for room size of 40' X 40' June 2, 2009 Kirk Taylor (san diego) This is a great product. It does so many things like upgrade dvd to 1080p and many many more functions. This is advertised for 600 on the ONKYO site. Buy here for sure. used or refurbished works too.
