Amazon.com Product Description The 301-V series speakers employ the renowned Bose magic, in the form of Direct/Reflecting speaker technology. These versatile bookshelf speakers bring a lifelike spaciousness to movies and music. The combination of direct and reflective sound mimic a live performance, whether it's cinema or concert. The speakers stand alone, mightily, but they also work well with a center channel speaker (the Bose VCS-10) to recreate a true cinema experience. Stereo targeting tweeters, a rear-firing tweeter, spatial dispersion lens and an 8" woofer fill a room with sound without filling it with cabinetry. Automatic protection circuitry prevents drivers from being overdriven and provides increased reliability. For its class, the 301 Direct/Reflecting system sounds much bigger than its price suggests.
Product Description In a live performance, music takes many different paths to reach your ears and touch your emotions, including a blend of direct and reflected sound. Bose® 301® speakers feature Direct/Reflecting® speaker technology to recreate this combination of direct and reflecting sound, delivering music that sounds spacious and more like a live performance. Conventional speaker design focuses sound directly at the listener, somewhat like a flashlight beam. That means stereo effects are most prominent in one sweet spot, delivering unbalanced sound to the rest of the room. 301 speakers produce Stereo Everywhere® speaker performance, so you and your friends and family can sit where you like and enjoy balanced stereo sound from almost anywhere in the room. Our 301 bookshelf speakers provide outstanding sound while fitting beautifully into your living space. Their slender and graceful lines will match your décor and our accessories offer even more placement alternatives. And 301 speakers are a suitable choice when youre ready to experience Bose sound in your movies as well as your music. Connect these versatile speakers to your surround sound receiver and enjoy the benefits of Bose sound in almost everything you watch.

they are going back May 20, 2010 Jay (NJ) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
no details in the sound, everything blends together into one big mesh.
amazon will get mine back very soon.
Bang for your buck May 9, 2010 Helmi Hasan (Madison, Wi) I love these speakers! I bough them through best buy though. Thought my review might help someone who is internet researching this product.
First of all, the sound is amazing and crisp (try listening to live acoustics). I use these as my front main speakers with a 5.1 yamaha receiver. Among other bookshelf speakers that I compared at best buy, each of the Bose 301 speakers comes with a 8" woofer, translation: U really dont need a subwoofer any more, so that alone saves u at least $100 on a separate woofer. Imaging is not as advertised though, the claim is (stereo everywhere) but I definitely think there is a sweet spot for these speakers. However, for around $300 and you dont need a sub, and it is load enough and the bass is powerful enough to make my room rumble at full blast, I think it is the best speakers for $300. Best underdog speakers from Bose, the other speakers from Bose are probably not as value for money
buy them December 31, 2009 lilnasty (Cypress, Tx) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
although I did not purchase these from amazon.....these are by far the best sounding book shelve speakers I have ever bought...hence the name Bose.
Good speakers February 3, 2009 Southern Yankee These speakers don't seem to have quite the space in the sound my old 301s had, but they still provide a very realistic sound. They seem to be a little heavy on the bass response for me, I would like a little more emphasis on the treble as I listen to classical music. They are still very good speakers, though, and the instruments are all clearly and individually defined. Make sure you get them up off he floor, though. On the floor the sound is muddy.
26 Years & Stll Kickin' November 5, 2008 Joseph Brown (St. Louis, MO.) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
Mine are not the Bose 301-V's pictured here. Mine are the original Bose 301's bought roughly 26 years ago & still kickin'. I bought one pair at first to back up a pair of larger Pioneer speakers when pushing a large hall on a DJ gig. I would stretch out wires long enough to reach the back of the hall. Finally, getting a bit too old to play DJ any longer, I sold the Pioneers & bought another pair of Bose 301's for that "surround sound" effect. Compare these to other bookshelf speakers in the same price range. I believe you'll decide on BOSE also. To say my Bose 301's have stood the test of time would be a gross understatement.
